Earthquake Great kanto struck near the cities of Tokyo and Yokohama on September 1, 1923 at 2 minutes beofer noon. Fires, toppling buildings, and tsunamis claimed up to 150,000 lives. It started fires and caused tsunamis which flooded towns and cities.
A famous earthquake is the san fransicisco one of 1906. It also affected the coast of northern california. The magnitude of this earthquake is a very high 8.25. A total of 375 deaths were reported. Many of the casulties in chinatown were ignored.
The Earthquake in Haiti was a 7.0 magnitude and hit on the 12th of January. Throughout the earthquake, a total of about 316,000 people died! The earthquake took the lives of 100,000 people in the just 60 seconds! This has been the strongest eartquake to ever hit Haiti since 1751. This earthquake hit Haiti near the Port-au-Prince.
The single most devastating earthquake of all time took place in 1556 in the shaanxi province of china. the earthquake effected 500 miles of land and 10 different provinces. it was estimated to be a magnitude 8 earthquake, there are no accurate recird of how long the earthquake lasted or how bad the aftershocks were. the earthquake took 830,000 lives and left giant craters in the land. most people died because the didn't live in villages they lived in saves and under cliffs which collapsed when the earthquake struck
