The New Madrid Fault

  1. The New Madrid fault line poses a serious risk to the Mid-West. It is the highest earthquake risk in the U.S. aside from West Coast. It is from Charleston, Missouri to Cairo, Illonois and covers five states. The largest risk it poses is by 2040 there is a 90% chance that the Earthquakes will be 6.0 shocks. It will NOT largely affect Ohio and there are currently roughly 200 measurable events each year (roughly 18 each month).

  2. The new madrid fault line is a very dangerous thing. It is so dangerous because it goes through an are that is not prepared for any earthquakes. Also it is thought that the fault line could cause a super earthquake. Some people believe that BP's oil drilling is a cause of the recent fault activity. If something where to happen along the Madrid fault line, it would most likely not affect Ohio but it would affect the surrounding states and could cause a new body of water to be made in the middle of the United States.

  3. The New Madrid Fault is large seismic zone in the southern and midweswtern United States. It causes intraplate earthquakes. The fault goes southwest from New Madrid, Missouri. Earthquakes caused by the fault could be catastraphic to Ohio and other places in the midwest.
