Super Volcanoes

32 comments:

  1. a super volcano is a volcano capable of producing a volcanic erution greater than 240 cubic miles. These are capable of eruptions 1000 times greater than other volcanos. They can occur when magma in the eath rises into the crust with a hot spot of growing magma. The magma is unable to break through the surgace and pressure is created. The pressure makes the land and magma rise into a super volcano. Yellowstone is a United States super volcano. The threat it is poses on the United States is if one these supervolcanos erupt it can cover the whole U.S in magma and can possibly kill us all. Scientist and geologist worry about Yellowstone ereupsting it could end and kill all of makind in the states. Danny Minton

  2. Supervolcanoes can occur when magma in the Earth rises into the crust from a hotspot but is unable to break through the crust. It isnt actually a volcanoe its a spot where magma is building pressure. Kamren McGuffin

  3. A super volcano is a very powerful volcano. This is a volcano that is capable of producing magma with a greater volume of thousands of cubic kilometers. That is about a thousand thimes bigger than any historic volcanoes that have ever happened. These occur when magma rises to the earth's crust but can not penatrate the crust, so this forms a huge hotspot on the crust.
There is a huge threat on the U.S. if one of these blow. Scientists believe that if one of these were to blow it could wipe out the hole North America. One of these erupted in Yellow Stone National park 2.1 million years ago. This super volcano cased a huge gouge that was about85 kilometers long by about 60 kilometers wide. So judging what hapeened it could be very bad.

  4. yellowstonje national park is supposed to erupt soon. it lies on top of a hotspot with molten magma squirting up! people are talking about evacuating to the area. being a super volcanoe; its eruption is a big deal.

  5. A super volcanoe is a volcaneo capable of erupting and causing volcanic eruption. Super volcanoes can happen when magma from the earth rises into the hotspot. This is a threat to the United States because there is a supervalcano atyellowstone that can erupt and wipe out the Earth.

  6. Super Volcanoes are highly dangerous volcanoes that have an erruption magnitude of 8. One of the most well known volcanoes is is Yellowstone National Park and hasn't gone off for millions of years. If this volcano is to errupt while we are on the earth then all the continents will be covered with ash and the United States will probably melt because of the magma.

  7. The largest super volcano is in Yellow Stone National Park. If a super volcano erupts it is likely to cause the end of human existance. The continents will be covered in ash. These volcanos have an erupting power of 1000 times more than a regular mountain.

  8. A super volcano isn't much different than a normal volcano. It forms the same way, acts the same way, and looks the same way. However, there is one MAJOR difference: size. To be classified as a super volcano, a volcano must produce a "super-eruption" (1000km^3 or more of material). That is the main difference between the two. The biggest one is in Yellowstone. 10. Scientists have reported that the super volcano in Yellowstone National Park is gorwing. Some people think glaciers that have been on the earth for thousands of years are melting because of super volcanoes. The volcano has not erupted for 70,000 years. The volcano is 34 miles by 45 miles.

  11. A super volacano is a volacano that ejects more than a trillion tons of material when it erupts.I thought it was interesting that a super volcano can cover an entire continent in ash. Also, super volcanos are 30 times stronger than the strongest volcanic eruption in recent history which occured at Krakatoa. The last super volcano that errupted was 71,00 years ago. Only 5,00 people survived in order to reproduce. If a super volcano errupted it would most like result in the extinction of man kind. AN exapmle of a super volcano is the one located directly under Yellowstone National Park.

  12. A supervolcano is a volcano capable of producing an eruption with more than 1000 cubic kilometers of magma, ash, and rocks. This is about 1000 times more than some historicle erupions. The Yellowstone volcano is probably the most known supervolcano and is dangerously close to erupting.

  13. A supervolcano is a volcano capable of producing a volcanic eruption with an ejecta volume greater than 1,000 cubic kilometers (240 cubic miles). This is thousands of times larger than most historic volcanic eruptions.[1] Supervolcanoes can occur when magma in the Earth rises into the crust from a hotspot but is unable to break through the crust. Pressure builds in a large and growing magma pool until the crust is unable to contain the pressure. They can also form at convergent plate boundaries (for example, Toba) and continental hotspot locations (for example, Yellowstone).

  14. is a large fault zone that magma breaks the surface of the earths crust lava spits out on the earths surface. it must spit 1000 cubic km of multen lava to be consiterd a super volcano

A supervolcano is a massive volcano that no one wants to erupt. if a supervolcano erupts it can shoot out 240 cubic miles of mamgma or more! this is thousands of times bigger then some of the biggest eruptions the earth has ever experinced. A supervolcano occures when magma seaps up a crack in the earth. when it gets to where the crust of the where it is not cracked it sits in this hot spot and starts to build up pressure. when the crust cannot hold up the pressure it breaks through the curst and shoots the magma up in there this stage is also known as an eruption. if a super volcano erupts it could end the wourld because of all of the ash that will get sent up into the sky. this will make it so that the sun can not reach the eart. this will cause the earth to get cold and kill our crops and pretty much so suficate us to deat. this is very deadly to tge us because in yellow stone there is active supervolcano. there is 1500 square miles of magma in the yellowstone's volcano. this is enought to make all of the world end.

  16. super volcanoes are eruptions that have a magnitude of 8 on the volcanic explosivity index . i studied about yellowstone national park , the last erruption happened 640,000 years ago . an eruption of yellow stone occurs every 600,000 years . if this super volcano errupts two thirds of the U.S will be totally wiped out . it will have a force 1,000x stronger than the mount st. helens erupption .

  17. A super volcano is a volcano that is capable to produce enough magma to cover 240 cubic miles. The biggest super volcano in the world is located in the U.S at Yellowstone National Park. Scientist spredict that soon the volcano should erupt for the first time in 600,00 years. If the super volcano at Yellowstone erupted it could kill up to 2/3 of the U.S.

  18. A super vocanoe would travel 2/3 of the U.S. Also the ashes of the volcanoe would be so much that the ashes would travel all over the Earth. Another thing is that the ashes would cause the world to have a black winter because the ashes would be in the clouds and snow. Michelle Deisenroth

  20. When a volcano erupts and produces more than a trillion tons of material, it is called a super volcano. A super volcano can cover an entire contenitent in ash. This is a theory of how the dinosaurs became extinct! 71,000 years ago in Toba was when the last super volcano erupted. The suns rays were covered with ash and the humans were almost extinct. A super volcano is located directly underneath Yellowstone National Park. If this does explode anytime soon, the United States will be completey covered in ash and magma. Scary right?

  22. During my research, I found that for a volcano to be considered a super volcano it has to be able to erupt at a ejecta volume higher than 1,000 cubic kilometer. That would cause a lot of distruction, hope no one lives near one! (:

  23. Supervolcanoes are gigantic and are extremely dangerous. If one were to erupt, then it would probably kill off the human race because of all the magma, ash, and volcanic gases. Regualr volcanoes and supervolcanoes act the same way, but for a volcano to be a supervolcano, it must be capable of erupting 1000 cubic km of magma. That's a lot of magma, plus, supervolacanoues are capacble of spewing even more magma. One particularly dangerous things about supervolcanos is that the U.S. is sitting right on top of one. Yellowstone. We don't know when it's going to erupt, but it definitely won't erupt for a couple thousand; maybe million years. If Yellowstone were to erupt, the ash would block out the sun, and we would be suffocated by ash. That's pretty scary if you ask me.

  24. I think it's really cool but yet scary that Yellowstone National park has a Supervolcano under it. I was waching a video on the internet and a scientits said that if the supervolcano under Yellowstone erupts, it could destroy the whole United States! He also said the the volcanic ash from the eruption could spread very, very fast! But I'm really not that worried about Yellowstone eruptting because they think that the super volcano under Yellowstone won't be erupting any time soon. I also watched another video on the internet and the videos manin idea was "If yellowstone erupts, how would life on Earth survive?" And the video was really good. Some people even think that a super volcano caused the extiction of the Donosaurs! A SUPER VOLCANO IS A BIG DEAL. THEY ARE VERY MASSIVE AND EXTREMLY DANGEROUS! I've also wathced a move called "2012" and in a part of the movie the super volcano under Yellowstone erutps and the expostion is huge! I could not believe that the explosion was that big! Even litte/big fireballs where coming out of the explosion and hitting the enviroment! But that was just a movie. I was at one website and the website was a "Countdown" The countdown was counting down when Yellowstone is going to erupt. But no one is sure when yellowstone is going to erupt. If Yellowstone erutps it would harm life on Earth. It would be really hard to recover. But no need to worry, yellowstone will not erput anytime soon!

  25. If the Super Volcano under Yellowstone National Park were to erupt at full-scale, it would affect the entire globe. Ash would be shot about 20 miles up into the atmosphere and from there travel all around the world. This ash would put Earth into a volcanic winter, globally lowering temperatures and blackening skies. It's not only scary to think about this happening in Yellowstone, but anywhere around the world. Based on this information, I would assume any Super Volcano that went off would more or less have the same affect. So even if a Super Volcano erupted in, say, China or somewhere else halfway around the world, everywhere on the planet would be in volcanic winter. Very frightening!

  26. Supervolcanoes are huge volcanoes that can send ash across the world. In a small volcano that ash can stop planes from flying but in a supervolcano the ash can throw the world into a volcanic winter by blocking out the sun. When the supervolcano erupted last time it sent oh, about 8000 times as much as Mt. St. Helens. That is a lot of lava and ash. And that would be bad. Also, last time Yellowstone erupted it shot ash everywhere arround the world, but people in Missouri were walking arround in several feet of ash. Yellowstone is in Montana. Mt. St. Helens is in Washinton and it only sent a few feet of ash as far as Montana.

The yellow stone volcano in the usa is consiterd a super volcano. This is a problum because it is still active and is ready to blow at any given moment

  28. A super volcano is a volcano that is capable of an eruption producing at least 1000 cubic miles of material. However this term is not quite scientific as it can cover a wide selection of volcanic activity. In essence the common understanding will be a volcanic eruption that is several orders of magnitude stronger than most volcanic eruptions. New scientific methods has allowed scientist to identify and monitor potential volcanoes that would fit in this category. One such is the Yellowstone National Park Caldera. If you saw the disaster film 2012 you saw a dramatization of what would happen if the Yellowstone Caldera actually erupted.
